The Temuka Saleyards is one of the oldest saleyards in New Zealand which is still operating and getting stronger year after year. As a farmer-owned co-operative Temuka Saleyards has become one of New Zealand's largest saleyards due to the foresight of past and present Directors, Livestock Companies working together and its central location in the South Island. Over 300,000 sheep and up to 70,000 cattle are sold through the complex annually, with livestock coming as far away as Southland, North Canterbury and the Chatham Islands.
The Saleyards has had a substantial transformation over the years with the new weighing system installed and being fully NAIT compliant. From October 2021 all cattle sales at Temuka Saleyards are live streamed and stock sold at the selling centre can also be purchased online.
